SLEEP
Keep a regular bedtime.
Children ages 4-6 need at least 10 hours of sleep a night.
1- New situations mean they need more sleep to process their new surroundings
2- Developmental delays typically mean a child needs more sleep to increase brain processing and development
3- A new school setting means...NEW GERMS. New germs mean your child needs more sleep to increase immunity and fight off illness.
Overall 11-13 hours of sleep for your child is a BEST BET

FOOD
Food feeds the body...As well as the MIND AND SOUL
1. Balance is best. They should have protein (meats & beans), fruits and vegetables (fresh is best), carbohydrates (pasta,
bread, etc) AND a TINY amount of processed sugars and fats!!!
2. Try something new once in a while. Our children can be picky but please work on getting your child to TRY a bite of new
fresh food (vegetables or fruits) It maybe a new favorite
3. AVOID SODAS and sugary drinks, there are many studies that show how negative an impact on a child's development
and growth. Not to mention the lack of nutrition.
4. If something happens, And your child doesn't eat breakfast or your family is in need of food at home -- LET ME KNOW. I have spare snacks and will feed them. As for a family our school has resources for you!
***I CAN'T TEACH A HUNGRY CHILD...They are more focused on the need of food.***

Homework (Academics at Home)
1. Homework in kindergarten is to get your child into the ROUTINE of working on learning outside of school every night.
2. Kindergartener's homework should not take MORE than 20 minutes to do.
(This does not take into account a student's attempt at avoidance)
3. Homework is for your child, not you. If the only way to get them to do their homework is for you to do some first, then do
yours on another sheet of paper.
4. Please note on homework assignments your child's emotions while doing them if it varies from one night to the next, we
can then try to address any patterns.
