Learn. Encourage. Achieve. Discover.
by making GREEN choices
Our school is a Leadership & Foreign Language Magnet which means that students are introduced, taught, and typically embrace Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective Leaders (i.e. The Leader in Me model).
That being said, our school has created a specials just for third through fifth grade which means that once a week every 3rd- 5th grader goes to an assigned location within the building to be a leader (whether it is in the office, library or a K-2 classroom. So on any given day at particular times of the day there are older students who work with, build relationships, and support the learning of your child. As the year goes on you may hear your child speak of these Leaders and the impact they have on your child.
So far the Leadership students have been wonderful examples and have also proven to be great advocates for acceptance of differences.

You will find that in our room we use the term "green choices" more than "good choices" for a number of reasons.
1. Green is a calming yet generally neutral term to children. And is the start point for our behavior chart in our room.
2. If a child makes a "Not Good" choice then they may then believe that they in turn are Not Good.
3. When discussing a "not green" choice with a child, they can accept the ACTION as wrong more easily and will less likely be inclined to feel "I am bad"
4. It is my TRUE belief that there are NO "Bad Child" simply bad actions, poor situations, or in some situations lack of structure for understanding.
